The delivery of an award to an Austrian football legend, a meeting with sports minister of Austria and check the great development of female football in this country were the biggest events of the UEFA President, Michel Platini, on his visit on Tuesday to Austria.
Platini attended the meeting qualifying for the UEFA EURO 2012 between Austria and Turkey in Vienna as part of a busy day that also met the country's sports minister, Norbert Darabos.
In the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, Platini accompanied the president of the Football Federation of Austria (OFB), Leo Windtner to deliver a prize to former international Andreas Herzog. It is a new initiative of UEFA is a new cap and a commemorative medal given to all players who have reached 100 caps for his country. Herzog is the player of this team with more international matches (103), where he scored 26 goals between 1988 and 2003.
A little earlier in the day, the UEFA President visited the National Center for Women's Football Federation of St Pölten in Austria, a facility that has been partially funded by UEFA. Women's Football Academy offers world class facilities for girls to reach the highest level women's football, and has benefited from the funds offered by the program HatTrick UEFA national associations.
In Austria, Michel Platini also met with the country's sports minister, Norbert Darabos. They visited together the center of women's football, and enjoyed a fruitful exchange of views on current issues in football, including the fight against corruption and violence in the stadiums. Norbert Michel Platini and Darabos were agreed on the need for cooperation between sports associations and the European Union in the coming years.
