Return to China -- Part 32, Shangri La

After leaving the lamasery we entered the town of Shangri La. It is being developed by the national government as a tourist destination and is still very much a work in progress.

Much of the city has been recently constructed and is quite modern.

The town square, the center of local society where large numbers of people gather each evening.

Our local guide identified this as the city high school. We rode through the new part of town and disembarked in the old town.

We wandered through picturesque streets. Several members of the party took the opportunity to purchase fruits and vegetables from street vendors.

This place caters to all tastes. We didn't stop but I would have liked to check the menu. I'm a big fan of Tideten and Westen food. Ah, Chinglish.

Then it was back on the bus and on to the next destination..
